Experience Gameday like only you can in Aggieland
For Texas A&M University students, former students, and College Station locals alike, football is more than just a popular past-time. The return of football season calls for the return of treasured traditions and memories in the making, thanks to the impressive legacy of the Aggie football program’s 124-year history.
Our Aggie roots run deep. We’re Aggie owned and Aggie managed, and we sit opposite legendary Kyle Field. Maroon and white colors can been seen all around our hotel, and howdy hospitality infuses every part of our Aggie-themed lobby, restaurants, guest rooms, and even our outdoor pool.
Texas A&M University is widely known as one of the world’s friendliest college campuses, and this adage was never truer than on an Aggie Gameday. Celebrate long-standing traditions, and even establish new ones, from our location in the heart of Aggieland. Just as Kyle Field is where Aggies play, our hotel is where Aggies stay; we’re just a mere 96 yards from Kyle Field, at what can only be described as the center of the Texas A&M football universe. That deserves a “Whoop!” don’t you think?
When the Aggies first took the field in 1894 and came away with a 1-1 win/loss record, Texas A&M found success in that first season far more significant than their one on-field victory: the foundation of over a century of rich Aggie traditions give a compelling reason to attend Texas A&M University, as well as reason to return to College Station for football weekend after football weekend even after they’ve become former students.
During Gameday weekends, this tried and true Aggie passion speaks for itself. Thousands of Aggies flock to College Station in the name of fall football, making for a rowdy game day unmatched by any other football program in the SEC and beyond. Though their Gameday escapades end for kickoff at Kyle Field, the festivities begin at midnight the day before the game, signaling a swell in Aggie pride that’ll last long after the game is over.
Gameday the Aggie Way
At Texas A&M University, Gamedays are filled with Aggie-isms exchanged between fans who are more like family, and team celebrations that feel a lot like coming home. Drinks flow, laughter abounds, and all Aggie fans in and around College Station come together in Kyle Field to support the team as they play for a win. But beyond the football field is the fanfare, and Texas A&M does it better than anywhere else through these fan favorite Aggie Gameday festivities.
Midnight Yell Practice
Since 1931, more than 25,000 people have gathered for the famed Midnight Yell Practice, held at Kyle Field the night before the game. Yell leaders lead the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band-closely followed by hordes of current and former students-into Kyle Field, where the yell leaders will lead the crowd in Aggie cheers that date back to the university’s early days.
Expect to hear The Aggie War Hymn, as well as colorful fables depicting the Aggie’s upcoming game. Don’t miss the special rally on the weekend of the first home game, dubbed the First Yell, that now often includes performances from students, as well as local and nationally recognized entertainers.
The 12th Man
Though only eleven football players can take the field at a time, the fans make up Texas A&M football’s symbolic 12th Man. The 12th Man moniker dates back to an Aggie football game in 1922, during which the team was severely shorthanded, and called on squad player E. King Gill to fill in their otherwise empty bench.
Gill stood with the Aggies for the entire game, and supported them to a well-earned win through what would become one of college football’s biggest upsets. Today, Aggie fans show up in full force-and remain standing for the entire game-in solidarity with Gill’s Aggie spirit.
Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band
Formed in 1894, the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band is more than a marching band-each of its members is also a member of the Corps of Cadets. Commonly referred to as the Noble Men of Kyle, or simply Aggie Band, the Aggie Band is, in fact, the largest military marching band in the United States, and executes complicated maneuvers worthy of that honor.
The band claims to have never lost a halftime, and does so through their meticulous technique, style, and spirited play of the Aggie War Hymn to which all Aggie fans respond with a resounding “Whoop!”
The party starts long before the game does, and we’ve got a front row seat to all the action. Texas A&M current and former students take over nearby Aggie Park as well as the 12th Man Lots, which sit around the corner from our hotel and alongside famed Kyle Field. Even if you're rooting for the opposing team you've invited to join in the fun to experience the best tailgating in the state of Texas. Elevate your gameday experience with a hassle free tailgate. Tailgate Guys provides turn key pre game hospitality set ups for groups of all sizes, located just steps away from our front door.
